Vanessa Bryant is a former model and philanthropist who first met rising NBA star Kobe Bryant in 1999 on the set of a music video. Less than two years later, 18-year-old Vanessa wed the 21-year-old Lakers shooting guard. At first, Kobe’s parents disapproved of their relationship, partially because Vanessa was of Mexican and Irish descent. However, the couple mended things with Kobe’s parents in 2003 when they had their first daughter, Natalia.
Vanessa has experienced ups and downs in her personal life. After the birth of their first two daughters, she and Kobe filed for divorce. But the duo reconciled two years later in 2013. They had two more daughters together in 2016 and 2019. Tragically, on January 26, 2020, Kobe and eight others, including their 13-year-old daughter Gianna, died in a helicopter crash in Calabasas, California.
